We had the coolest opportunity to visit the USA National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC, where olympic whitewater athletes train and compete! It was so awesome!! With the upcoming London Olympics, you must know that this place was packed!
They not only have one of the most challenging man-made whitewater courses in the country, but they have ropes courses, zip-lines, restaurants, and the particular night we were there, live entertainment.
We spent several hours just watching the whitewater athletes, which was so impressive.
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but that water is moving FAST!!
They have walking trails that go for miles and miles, and circle around the entire Whitewater Center. It was a beautiful backdrop for the sunset.
This is one of the many challenging ropes courses. I LOVE this stuff, and it so reminds me of the many times our high school or youth group would go to parks and campgrounds with challenging events for us to "bond" together in, and certainly grow in our faith.
You can't really see it in this picture, but the tower to the far left of this picture is where one of the zip lines begins, and you ride aaaaaalllllllll the way past where we are standing to the other side of the park, right over the rapids! So fun!!
I guess the kayakers need a break at some point. After they have made their way briskly through the rapids, they ride this conveyer belt back up to the top, only to make their way through the course again.
We had such a great time, and this was absolutely one of the highlights of our time in Charlotte. I would go anywhere and do anything with this man. I love him so much, and deep down, I think he's really glad that I'm originally a "farm girl" who's not afraid to get my hands dirty, work hard, sweat, and enjoy the magnificent outdoors!! Here's to hopefully many more traveling and outdoor vacations for us.
