We have gone back and forth with what kind of chair, glider, rocker, bench, etc to use in Tuck's room. We sat in every glider at Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby, and none of them worked for us. Too soft. Too deep. Arm rests too high. We just couldn't picture any of them as Tuck's chair. Then, we went to Bliss Home.
I fell in love with this chair instantly. Then I sat in it, and I was even more in love. This is the Quinn Swivel glider, in Script fabric. The only problem...yes, we were in Bliss Home for crying out loud, and their prices are through the roof. We actually found the same exact chair at another knoxville furniture store for $150 less. Still, too expensive.
We again, looked at room/chair ideas from RH Baby and Child, and we stumbled upon this nursery, with a leather recliner. Perfect! Yep, that's what we want. Definitely a more masculine touch to his "boy room" and WAY easier to clean when the time comes...and I'm quite confident that time will come. Plus, a leather recliner is so much more versatile, and can be used in many rooms throughout the house at any point in time. So, a leather recliner it is. Now, where to find one.
This is my Papaw Hicks' (my mom's dad) leather reliner. My mom had it at her house, and said she would love nothing more than for us to have it, and use it in Tuck's room. She loved the idea of passing on a family heirloom (her daddy's chair) for us to use with our son. =)
So that's just what we did. We brought it home with us that weekend, and set it in his room. We made sure mom was okay with a little "restoration" of Papaw's chair. After receiving the okay, we started making plans for its renewal as well.
Our nearest and dearest resource comes in handy every time.
We went with an espresso brown paint, which we knew would cover the red-rust color of the chair in its current state. Plus, as it wears, the combination of the two will give the chair a very rustic, unique/worn look, which is exactly what we're going for.
Todd has been the best all along. Checking the weather prior to any spray painting job, using old sheets to protect our grass and pebblestone drive/garage flooring, and not letting me come close at all to protect our little man.
He let me take these two pictures of him "in action" but that was it. "Now go back inside the house, Janice. You can't be breathing this paint."
Only two coats of paint, and we have a beautifully restored recliner!!
It's perfect!! We let it set in Tuck's room for a couple of days, with the windows open to let some of the fumes escape. Let me also just interject, that this is the most comfortable leather recliner I have sat in in a long time. I actually took the best nap in it just the other day. Also, please excuse the beach towel underneath it. That is protecting our hardwood floors for now. We're still trying to decide if we want to add new hardware to make it swivel/glide.
Now all it needs is some tack work acceting on the arm rests. If there's one thing I'm good at, it's accent work.
I think it turned out very nice!! Such a great touch of class to a rustic leather recliner.
My papaw will be so proud. Todd saved the day again, with the vision of a rustic leather recliner in our little boy's room. Everything included, VERY extremely budget friendly too, ...practically free.
One of my most favorite parts, is that this chair is BIG and WIDE, so there's room for Tuck to climb right up and sit beside mommy or daddy and read books, color, and snuggle under a blanket.
I simply can not wait for that time to come.
